Driver Fell Asleep At Wheel Before Hitting Cyclists, Police Say

MIAMI -- One of 11 bicyclists hit by a cab driver Sunday morning on the MacArthur Causeway remained hospitalized Monday morning.
Slideshow: Images From The ScenePolice said 48-year-old Javier Linares was in critical but stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. He was part of a pack of cyclists traveling east on the causeway connecting Miami to Miami Beach when a taxicab struck them shortly before 8 a.m.

Six cyclists were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital. Four of them have since been released.
Five others were treated at the scene.
Police said the cab driver, 52-year-old
Herbert Morais, admitted to falling asleep behind the wheel.
According to the taxi company, Morais has a clean driving record. Police said no charges have been filed against him.
