MIRAMAR, Fla. -- Four Siberian huskies who escaped their home Monday could soon be euthanized after they reportedly attacked and killed a neighbor's dog.
Slideshow: Huskies Could Be Euthanized For Killing Neighbor's DogIn tears, Veno Charles described the last moments of Tinkerbell, her 4-pound terrier. Tinkerbell died Monday morning when four Siberian huskies escaped from their home, ran into Charles' yard and reportedly mauled the small dog to death.
"She was all scratched up, bleeding, her tongue was blue hanging out of her mouth. I didn't want to look at her," Charles told Local 10's Rob Schmitt.
The pack somehow escaped from their house, just down the street from where Charles lives.
Julie Roberts, who is a veterinary assistant, is just as emotional as Charles about the incident, because her four huskies could be euthanized if Broward Animal Control deems them dangerous.
"I don't think they realized what they were doing when they did that. I think they were trying to play and it was too rough," Roberts said.
Only Damien, the father of the dog family, is left. He didn't escape with his mate and the three puppies. Roberts is heartbroken at the thought of him being left all alone.
Roberts' attorney, Jason Wandner, told Local 10 that if the dogs are deemed dangerous, he will appeal, and animal control will have a big case to prove in order to euthanize all of the dogs.
"They're going to have to determine that each and every one of these dogs caused the death of this animal," Wandner said.
Veno Charles says she's quite distraught over what happened. She doesn't know what should happen to the dogs. However, she and other witnesses have told Broward County Animal Control that all four dogs took part in the mauling.
Charles, who could barely speak, said she is still in shock from what she witnessed. She said she doesn't know what the punishment should be.
"I love dogs. I don't want them hurt," she said. But I'm afraid they might hurt somebody else. If it was a little baby I was walking, they would have grabbed her just the same."
Roberts prays her huskies are spared. She said she's even willing to remove the dogs from the country in order to save their lives.
"If they don't come home, it's not going to be the same," Robert told Local 10. "They're not just our dogs, they're part of the family."
The four dogs are being held at Broward County Animal Control until a resolution is made.
