NORTHWEST MIAMI-DADE, Fla. -- A Northwest Miami-Dade woman shot a suspected car thief just after 1:30 am.
Police say the woman and her boyfriend saw someone breaking into their car outside a home at 5021 NW 172 Terrace.
A physical confrontation erupted between one of the suspects and the man. That’s when police say his girlfriend went and got a gun, and fired several shots at the suspect, hitting him in the upper torso. The suspect left the scene.
A short time later, a Miami-Dade police officer spotted the suspect’s vehicle and made a traffic stop. Officers say three men were inside the vehicle, one had a gunshot wound. He was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital and the two other suspects were arrested.
Police say at the time of the arrests, the suspects were driving a sport utility vehicle, reported stolen in Opa-locka.
The woman who fired the shots will not be charged.
