HOLLYWOOD, Fla. -- Socializing on the Internet has become a way of life, but it has also become a place for child predators.
Alicia Kozakiewicz travels the country to tell her story of torture after being lured online. Her mission is to help kids stay safe.
"When I was 13 years old, I met a man online. We talked for 8 months. He took me from my home and held me captive for 4 days until the FBI rescued me," Kozakiewicz told students at a Hollywood middle school Tuesday night.
Parents and students packed Attucks Middle School to learn about the latest tracking tools in cyberspace and how to talk to their kids about identifying dangerous people.
Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz, who organized the event, believes government can do more.
"We really need to invest millions of dollars in federal resources to investigate these internet predators," she said.
With millions of kids still posting private information online, there's lots to be done.
Local law enforcement, non profit groups, even the state all have cyber-stalking programs. Kozakiewicz said parents need to stay informed and involved to keep their children safe.
