Brazill Refuses To Testify In Gun Trial
Teen Uses 5th Amendment To Avoid Testifying
POSTED: 5:15 p.m. EST October 31, 2002
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The teenager who shot and killed his teacher was back in court Thursday, but this time he refused to speak.
Nathaniel Brazill, 16, used the Fifth Amendment to avoid being forced to testify. He was called as a witness in Pam Grunow's lawsuit against gun manufacturer Valor Corporation.
Grunow, teacher Barry Grunow's widow, says the company distributed a gun that was unsafe, defective and lacked features that would have prevented a minor from using it.
Jurors will not hear testimony from Brazill in the current trial, but they will get to hear videotaped testimony from the trial in which he was convicted of killing Barry Grunow.
Brazill shot his teacher to death two years ago in a West Palm Beach classroom.
