DAVIE, Fla. -- One gas station in South Florida is selling a gallon of regular unleaded gas for $2.99 -- but there's a catch.
VIDEO: $2.99 Gas Selling FastCustomers at a Chevron station at the corner of Pine Island Road and Orange Drive can take advantage of the $2.99 price only if they pay with cash or a Chevron gas card.
Owner David Zinn said he was able to lower the prices for cash and Chevron card customers because the station will not have to pay the credit card fees on those transactions. He said when people spend less money on gas, they often spend more money in the convenience store, which leads to profits for the station.
According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $3.48. In Florida, the average is $3.56.
Customers at the Chevron station who pay with a credit card can buy gas for $3.06 per gallon, which is still lower than the average.
