WEST PARK, Fla. -- Two men stole the copper pipes from a South Florida shopping center, causing the water to stop working at several businesses.
The thieves struck at the Countyline Shopping Plaza on Southwest 40th Avenue in West Park on Oct. 1.
The Broward Sheriff's Office received reports from two businesses at the shopping center reporting that the water had stopped working and that copper pipes were missing. One of the businesses, K&B Pawn Shop, had a surveillance camera that captured the crime on video.
BSO said the video shows that the motion-sensitive security light suddenly went out, suggesting that the thieves broke it. But the camera's night vision feature kicked in, and the camera captured images of two men removing the pipes.
Two similar thefts were reported in West Park on the same day.
Police are looking for the culprits, whom they described as two black men between 17 and 25 years old. One of the thieves has two tattoos on his right arm, one on his upper arm and the other on his inner forearm. The other man has a birthmark or marking under his right eye.
A $1,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in the case. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
