MIAMI -- Police in Miami have made an arrest in connection with the death of a 6-month-old boy on Tuesday afternoon.
On Thursday, police arrested Watson J. Dorval, 24, and charged him with second-degree murder.
Dorval, who was watching the his girlfriend's children at the time the incident occurred, had been questioned by police on Wednesday but was released. According to police, the child's mother was not home. Dorval is not the children's father.
On Thursday, the medical examiner determined the baby died of blunt trauma injuries. According to police, Watson struck the baby multiple times.
Those who know Watson told Local 10's Constance Jones they can’t believe what happened.
“I’m very shocked. He was just saying he did nothing to this baby. He was crying, saying I haven’t done nothing to the baby," Shaunta Black said.
The victim’s family appealed to the judge, asking for custody of the mother’s three other children. But, for now, the judge denied custody. The children remain in the custody of the Department of Children & Families.
