South Florida Company Accused Of Foreclosure Scam
POSTED: Friday, October 17, 2008
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The Florida Attorney General’s Office has filed a lawsuit against Outreach Housing, a Fort Lauderdale company accused of deceiving its customers.
The office said it has received about 600 complaints from customers who said Outreach Housing told them not to pay their mortgage and instead send money directly to Outreach.
Consumers say Outreach promised them that lawyers would contact lenders on their behalf and reduce their mortgage debt. Victims, however, said that never happened.
Local 10 Reporter Julie Summers spoke with Dorel Hamilton, a Plantation resident who is in danger of losing the condo she has called home for 23 years.
Summers went to Outreach Housing's offices in Fort Lauderdale. No one would speak on-camera but Summers was told that the company had done “nothing wrong” and that the blame rests with two attorneys who were paid hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Outreach Housing said they filed a contempt charge against the attorneys in August 2008.
The attorney general replied that it stands behind the allegations in the lawsuit and invites Outreach Housing to submit documentation to prove otherwise.
