MIAMI -- With the election just over a week away, thousands of South Floridians are still spending hours in line, waiting to vote.
In some areas, people have waited as long as five hours to cast their votes early. Over the weekend, some people arrived at the early voting sites more than three hours before the polls were even scheduled to open.
Some voters told Local 10 that they would rather know how long they'd have to wait than be disappointed and exhausted with the unknown.
There is still time to vote early or to request an absentee ballot. Instead of waiting in line, voters can visit the
Miami-Dade or
Broward County Web sites to request an absentee ballot. Voters should just make sure they mail their ballots time to arrive by Election Day or make plans to drop them off at the county elections office.
Voters can arrive at the early voting locations at the last minute if need be. The rule is that as long as voters are in line before the polls close, those running the locations must give them a chance to cast their ballots. The polls might be closed by the time all the voters reach the front of the line, but those who are in line will be allowed to vote.
