MIAMI -- Two people who were arrested after a police chase spanning three counties appeared in court Thursday.
Zona and David Garcia, a married couple, are accused of leading police on a chase on Wednesday. Police said the chase started with a robbery on Miami Beach. David Garcia allegedly knocked over a 79-year-old woman and stole her purse at a Walgreens on Jefferson Street before jumping into a white van, police said.
When an officer tried to pull over a white van with the Garcias inside later that morning, the couple sped away, driving north on Interstate 95, through Broward County and into a Palm Beach County neighborhood, where they eventually gave up.
Zona Garcia spent Wednesday night in jail and started the next morning with a visit to Judge Lawrence Schwartz. She is charged with one count of robbery, and her bond was set at $12,500.
David Garcia is charged with robbery, fleeing and eluding police and battery on an elderly person. He smirked several times during his brief appearance before a judge on Thursday. His bond was set at more than $22,000.
