POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- A Broward Sheriff's deputy said he was forced to open fire on a dog Saturday morning in Pompano Beach.
The deputy said he responded to a report of a dog bite on Northwest Fourth Street. That's when the pit bull mix lunged at him. The deputy said he opened fire, hitting the dog in the paw.
Ronald Jones made the initial call to report the dog.
"I felt something on my leg and it was a dog -- a big dog -- and what happened, he was biting, and, umm, we got him off and he ran back next door," Jones said.
Jones only suffered a minor bite. As for the dog, its is in the custody of Broward Animal Control. No word on whether the dog's owner will face any charges.
