MIAMI -- NBA star Alonzo Mourning is trying to raise money to help a 3-year-old Bahamian boy get a liver transplant.
Doctors at Jackson Memorial Hospital said Omar Ferguson is “hanging by a thread” and will only live a few more months at best without a transplant.
Ferguson suffers from a rare liver disease called biliary atresia. His mother brought him to Miami from the Bahamas because the transplant team has the experience needed for the operation.
The family does not have medical insurance, and the operation will cost about $300,000.
Mourning’s charity, Zo’s Fund For Life, is donating $50,000. Mourning is asking the community to help the family in need by donating the remaining $250,000.
The cause is very near and dear to Mourning’s heart. In 2003, he received a kidney transplant.
