MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- A famous South Beach modeling agency has closed its doors after decades of working with the most famous models on the planet.

South Florida's first full-service modeling agency, Irene Marie, went out of business last Friday after 25 years.

Models who go to the front door are greeted by a paper directing clients to an attorney. That attorney, Joel Tabas, said Irene Marie's business revenues dropped 90 percent in one year.

"Irene was hoping that business would pick up and she wouldn't have to do this. I can tell you she has been carrying the business herself, largely, for a significant amount of time," Tabas said.

"I am in shock because I have been so nice to them over the past three years. They should at least have the courtesy to call us and tell us," said 15-year-old model Dylan Lagalante.

Lagalante said he worked exclusively for the Irene Marie agency and that it now only owes him money but has a lot of photos he needs for his portfolio.

"My son deserves his money. He worked hard for it, and some of the people that are on the vouchers that they have already paid him for the job, and he has not received the money," said Lauri Ann Farmer, Lagalante's mother.

"We are trying to reconcile all of the monies we owe and the monies that are owed to Irene Marie so we can see how we can best and most fairly treat everyone," Tabas said.

For many who work in the business of looking good, this certainly does not feel good.

"He could have gone with other agencies, but we stood by Irene Marie, and at 15 this is the thanks he gets," Farmer said.

The doors to the business remain closed, but Tabas said Marie feels terrible and wants to find a way to open the doors so the models can get the materials they need to market themselves with other agencies.
