The 2009 hurricane season officially starts Monday, but a new poll suggests most residents are unprepared and -- even more alarming -- unconcerned.
For the second year in a row, the Mason-Dixon poll shows a majority of coastal residents feel invulnerable to a hurricane. Eighty-three percent have taken no steps to make their homes stronger, and more than half have no family disaster plan.
Even with recent storms, like Katrina and Wilma, that may be hard to believe.
Here at Local 10, we remain committed to bringing you programs and information to keep you and your family safe. But given this new poll, we have to ask: What will it take many Floridians to take the threat of these storms seriously?
Hopefully, it won't be another devastating hurricane.
That's our take on things. Let us know what you think.
