BOCA RATON, Fla. -- Police in Boca Raton said they have new information in the robbery of a jewelry courier last year.
On May 7, 2008, police said Wilmar Andres Sierra Perez was fatally shot inside an SUV by the victim he had just robbed of more than $150,000 in jewels.
A year later, police continue to search for his accomplices in the theft, and investigators have found a Miami connection in the case.
"A lot of the people involved in this case -- we're talking about Colombians, people of Hispanic descent -- they tend to stay within their community. We're asking that community for help to try to locate and get additional information that can help us," said Detective Juan Carlos Pijuan of the Boca Raton Police Department.
Boca Raton detectives believe two of the accomplices in the 2008 heist escaped that day and that the suspects, Edwin Andres Zaragoza and Rodolfo Vargas Londono, could be living under aliases in Miami-Dade County. Police are asking for the public's help in finding them.
"I think they're living among the people in Miami. They're specifically targeting jewelry couriers, whether they be Asian, Hispanic, whatever the case is. If they think they have a score, they are going to take them," Pijuan said.
Zaragoza is wanted on homicide and robbery charges, Local 10's Jen Herrera reported. Londono is wanted on outstanding warrants, but in this case he is wanted as a person of interest.
Anyone with information is asked to call police.
