Wandering Toddler Back With Friends

2-Year-Old Girl Left Alone While On Vacation To Disney

POSTED: Thursday, July 2, 2009

A toddler found wandering alone in the Florida Mall Wednesday night has been reunited with family friends who brought the girl to Orlando on a vacation to Walt Disney World, deputies said.

Walnita Decuir, 24, and Kenyaka Decker, 35, both of Louisiana, may face child neglect charges after a 2-year-old girl named Emira was spotted alone at about 6:30 p.m. by a couple from Georgia.

Decuir and Decker called authorities at about 1:50 a.m. Thursday to report the child missing.

According to Orange County sheriff's deputies, Decuir and Decker were with some people who divided into two groups when they left the Florida Mall. Each group thought Emira was with the other, deputies said.

"Obviously, she's scared. She's away from her parents ... she's scared," said Orange County sheriff's Lt. Spike Hopkins, who added that deputies furiously attempted to find the girl's guardians. "We sat there and watched surveillance video of the mall to see if we could find this child or anybody with this child or how the child got to the mall, but we were unsuccessful with that."

The child was placed in the custody of the Department of Children and Families before being reunited with her friends.
