SOUTH MIAMI, Fla. -- A woman arrested at a South Miami clinic and accused of posing as a doctor is out of jail. Ana Young was released on $37,000 bond on Friday according to the Miami-Dade County Women's Detention Center.
Young was arrested Thursday morning at at the Family Holistic Health Center in the 7800 block of Southwest 57th Avenue. Police said the 55-year-old did not have a license to be practicing medicine.
Miami-Dade police said Young had posed as a pediatrician, a physician and a midwife.
"I have no idea what this is about," Young said during her arrest. "Do I have a medical license? No, I don't. I'm a clinical director of that clinic."
Young faces charges including practicing a health care profession without a license, practicing midwifery without a license and organized scheme to defraud, according to Miami-Dade police.
Officers from the Miami-Dade Police Department's medical crimes unit interviewed clinic staff and collected evidence there.
Investigators learned about the allegations when two patients complained. Miami-Dade police said one of the patients, an 18-year-old woman, delivered a baby that was not breathing at Young's office. Police said Young revived the baby but refused to call fire rescuers for further medical assistance. Young also provided the woman with prescription medications and examined the baby, police said.
Since her arrest police say two more people have come forward to file complaints against Young, and they anticipate more people will come forward.
