MIAMI -- The future of Miami rap artist Pitbull is now in the hands of jurors.
Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, is charged with driving under the influence after being arrested in 2007. It was his second DUI arrest.
If convicted, he will likely have to serve time in prison.
Perez has maintained that the charges against him are false. The rap artist and his attorneys released a statement Thursday saying that he was the one who wanted the case to go to trial in order to make sure justice was served.
"Mr. Perez is currently in trial defending himself against the untrue and greatly overblown allegations," the statement quotes Perez's attorney, Joseph Vredevelt, as saying. "We intend to finish this trial in the next day and with a favorable result."
