CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- Citizens on both sides of the health care debate demonstrated outside the Coral Gables office of Sen. Bill Nelson on Thursday afternoon.
Key congressional committees in Washington, D.C., are set to take up legislation for President Barack Obama's health care plan, sparking debate across the country.
A group supporting the plan went to Nelson's office Thursday to talk to staffers and urge them to tell the senator to support the plan, as well.
That prompted a crowd of people against the plan to demonstrate, as well. Soon, those against the plan outnumbered the supporters by 2 to 1.
The demonstrators carried signs crying out what they saw as the pros and cons of the plan. The opponents claimed the plan would bankrupt the country and prompt private companies to drop health care coverage for employees.
On the other side, supporters said the plan would force the big insurance companies to lower their health care costs.
