An endangered sea turtle will be released back into the open water on Tuesday.

Margarita, an endangered green sea turtle, will be set free off Little Duck Key, a tiny island at the west end of the Seven Mile Bridge.

The 278-pound turtle had been at The Turtle Hospital in Marathon since it was found May 30 by the U.S. Coast Guard about 2-miles off Key West's Mallory Square.

The turtle was entangled in a crab trap line and its front flipper was severely damaged.

A veterinarian surgically removed the flipper.

Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is scheduled to help release Margarita at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
