In Pembroke Pines folks are hoping an alligator will take the bait.

It's not uncommon to find alligators in residential areas in South Florida -- File PhotoA trapper is trying to catch the same gator that attacked Martin Lawrence, 41, over the weekend as he walked his dogs.

It all happened along Palm Avenue about two miles north of Pines Boulevard.

Monday, the trapper searched along the canal and put out a gator trap. He said the reptile may be spending much of its time underwater right now because of the cooler temperatures.

Lawrence, who is disabled, said he was walking his cocker spaniels near the canal bank when the gator went for one of his dogs. He said when he pulled the dog away, the animal latched onto his leg and tried to pull him into the canal.
