PALM BAY, Fla. -- Twelve-year-old Charlie Hall died as a result of his injuries after he was ejected from a go-cart that was traveling about 30 mph down a dirt road Saturday afternoon.
Police said that 16-year-old Christopher Powell was driving the go-cart down the road between Aspen Road and Halblum Avenue when he lost control of it.
According to police, witnesses say Powell was trying to avoid a large hole in the path, and when he slammed on the brakes, it caused the go-cart to flip.
Both Powell and Hall were ejected, along with 15-year-old Nitira Bazemore.
Paramedics responded to the accident scene after a witness called 911.
"He (Hall) was up and walking around when they called to report the incident," Palm Bay Traffic Homicide Investigator, Jennifer Cordeau said. "On the way to the hospital, the boy went in to cardiac arrest and he could not be revived."
Bazemore and Powell suffered only minor injuries.
