DANIA BEACH, Fla. -- Federal and local law enforcement officials are joining forces in an effort to keep commuters who ride the rails on high alert.
"Operation Transit Shield" will run simultaneously in Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties on Wednesday.
Officers will be traveling along the approximately 100 miles of railways handing out informational brochures to passengers, outlining how to identify signs of suspicious or criminal activity.
The initiative is expected to run from 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The presence of extra law enforcement will not disrupt traffic during the morning commute, officials said.
