FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- A Broward County commissioner suspended after his September arrest on money laundering charges was arrested again Thursday.
According to the Broward state attorney's office, Josephus Eggelletion now faces a charge of unlawful compensation, a second-degree felony.
Prosecutors said that Shawn Chait, a representative of Prestige Homes of South Florida, Inc., gave Eggelletion a membership to a local golf and country club in exchange for nearly three years of favorable treatment for Prestige Homes on business with the commission.
The state attorney's office said the charge was part of an ongoing investigation into public corruption.
Eggelletion turned himself in to the Broward County Jail on Thursday. He has already been released on bond.
Federal investigators arrested and charged Eggelletion, along with former Miramar Commissioner Fitzroy Salesman and Broward County School Board member Beverly Gallagher, in September in connection with an undercover corruption probe.
In that case, Eggelletion was accused of being paid $23,000 to help funnel $900,000 from Miami to the Bahamas.
