WESTON, Fla. -- Police are searching for a man who stole a $3,500 limited-edition bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue whisky by sticking it in his pants and walking out of a Weston liquor store.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, before stealing the whisky, the thief did some trial runs. At about 6 p.m. on Oct. 30, police said, the man went to Master Wine Liquor in the 4500 block of Weston Road, stuck a $70 bottle of Grey Goose vodka in his pants and went outside.
After stowing the stolen vodka into his car, police said, the thief went back into the store and did the same with a bottle of pinot noir.
The thief went into the store a third time, police said, to steal the pricey 200th anniversary bottle of Johnnie Walker Blue, only six of which were distributed in the entire state. Police said a female accomplice distracted the employee while the thief went after the bottle.
According to BSO, the man pried open the door of the Plexiglas case, took out the bottle and put it in his pants and then put a display bottle in its place. He also stole a crystal decanter, police said.
The thief is described as a man with a mustache who is 5 feet 9 inches tall and 250 pounds. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
