BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- Detectives have found a person's body in the wreckage of a plane that crashed in a remote section of Broward County Sunday night.
The victim has not yet been positively identified.
The Federal Aviation Administration said the Aero Commander 100 had just taken off from Tamiami Airport and was headed to Ocala around 6:30 p.m. when it went down near mile marker 41 off I-75 in western Broward County.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, drivers along I-75 reported seeing the plane flying “very low” and said that it “seemed to disappear into the swamp.”
On Monday, helicopters and airboats from the Broward Sheriff's Office returned to the scene to search for the victim's remains.
The tail of the mangled plane was still visible from the ground and the air. However, most of the single-engine aircraft was left submerged in the murky water. From Sky 10, a large debris field was seen near the area of impact.
The single-engine plane is registered to Edmundo Velazquez of Oviedo. The victim has not been identified. He is believed to have been the only person on board.
It's unclear what caused the plane to go down.
