Miami Southridge High School Teacher Arrested

MIAMI -- A South Florida high school teacher was arrested Tuesday, accused of molesting a male, 14-year-old former student.

Frank Galatas, 28, a teacher at Miami Southridge Senior High School, faces a charge of lewd and lascivious battery on a minor.

According to Miami police, the alleged victim met Galatas two years ago, when Galatas was his teacher, and Galatas and the victim's mother became friends. Police said the victim's mother, a single parent, wanted a role model for her child, and Galatas befriended him.

Police said that Galatas called the teen's mother in October, asking to stay at her home because he was having marital problems. Last week, police said, the teenage victim also slept over at Galatas' house.

According to police, Galatas molested the teenager on both occasions.

Police said they want to know if there are any more possible victims. Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS (8477).
