MIAMI -- Miami-Dade county is now offering wireless internet onboard some of its buses and trains.
Miami-Dade Transit launched free wireless service Thursday on select Metrorail cars and 95 Express buses. Decals will indicate which buses and Metrorail cars are offering the service.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Alvarez will kick off the new program at 11 a.m. at the Palmetto Metrorail Station in Medley.
"Thousands are enjoying free Wi-Fi at our parks," Alvarez said. "Expanding wireless to our transit system is the next logical and exciting step to continue our Wi-Fi efforts.”
The free Wi-Fi program is designed to improve passengers' experience.
Commuter Rosie Coll told Local 10 the new service will make her more efficient.
“You can do your work when you are on the Metrorail and waiting. It’s very good to have internet,” she told Local 10's Kellie Butler.
The pilot program will run for 90 days.
