TAMARAC, Fla. -- Broward County sheriff's deputies are searching for a man who sexually assaulted a 91-year-old woman in her Tamarac home Thursday morning.
Deputies were called to the Bermuda Club Retirement Community early in the morning. When they arrived, they found the woman bloody and bruised from the attack.
The woman told police an intruder entered her home, tied her up and sexually assaulted her.
The alleged victim was taken to the sexual assault treatment center.
Resident Judy Wiess, who lives in the same building as the alleged victim, woke up to the sound of officers arriving at the scene.
"Every detective, or whoever came, you could just see that they were really upset themselves and they were taking it dead serious," Wiess said. "I'm not really a scared person, but that's one thing that scares me. That's something that takes your soul away."
Authorities said crimes like these are not common.
"It happens every once in a while, every couple of years, but it is bizarre," said Keyla Concepcion of the Broward Sheriff's Office. "You don't often see sex crimes being committed against elderly women."
Police have not made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
