MIAMI -- A 3-year-old jaguar died at Miami Metrozoo after a procedure to determine the cause of his stomach problems.
According to Metrozoo's Ron Magill, 129-pound Palenque underwent tests and procedures Wednesday morning including X-rays, blood tests and an exam with a scope to look at possible gastrointestinal abnormalities.
Magill said that during the procedure, Palenque had complications with his breathing. Doctors gave him drugs to reverse his anesthesia, but it did not work, and Palenque went into cardiac arrest and died.
Palenque was born in March 2006 at Zoo New England in Boston and was one of the stars of Metrozoo's "Amazon and Beyond" exhibit.
