Some members of South Florida's Caribbean community said they lost everything in an alleged Ponzi scheme.

Midwest Holding Capital has shut its doors and is now being investigated by the Boca Raton Police Department and the Florida Office of Financial Regulation.

Victims told police they heard about the company on infomercials on Caribbean radio.

Midwest Holding Capital lured investors by promising 100 percent interest on 30 day investments. Investors told Local 10 they were told the company invested in gold and silver.

The Boca Raton Police Department has identified 40 potential victims who may have lost a total of $600,000.

"No one has made any money," said Detective Robert Flechaus, of the Boca Raton Police Department.

Yvita Marignan, of Deerfield Beach, said she has lost everything to Midwest. She invested her savings of $13,500. She did receive investment return checks for $30,000 and, a month later, another check for $60,000. She said both checks bounced.

Marignan's car was repossessed, her home is in foreclosure and her husband has left her over her financial mistake with Midwest.

Investors said Patricia Mohammed, who identified herself as a broker and officer, is living large on their invested money.

Mohammed refused to talk to Local 10's Jeff Weinsier.

Local 10 has learned she lives in a rented $600,000 house and has several luxury cars in her name.

State records show Mohammed is also an officer of R&F Financial Capital. Both checks issued to Marignan were from R&F.

The Boca Raton Police Department could file organized fraud and grand theft charges against Mohammed and others involved with Midwest by the end of the month.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to call Boca Raton Police Detective Robert Flechaus at 561-338-1325.
