POMPANO BEACH, Fla. -- A man beat up a driver and stole his car outside a Pompano Beach gas station last week, and police are searching for the thief and his accomplices.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, 52-year-old Jose Rodriguez and a friend went to a BP gas station in the 200 block of West Copans Road just after 11:35 p.m. on Nov. 7 to buy some beer.
Rodriguez stayed in his1998 Pontiac Sunfire while his friend went inside the store. Three men walked out of the gas station and went up to Rodriguez's car, police said.
According to BSO, one of the men, whom they called the primary suspect, leaned into the passenger window of the Sunfire, saying something to Rodriguez. When Rodriguez's friend came out of the store, the men started arguing with him, as well.
A surveillance video shows one of the three men trying to get a jacket out of Rodriguez's car, police said. Rodriguez got out of the vehicle and pushed the "primary suspect," who then punched him and knocked him down several times before getting into the Sunfire and taking off.
Police said the other two men left the gas station in a maroon vehicle.
Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
