Police: Infant May Have Died Of Malnutrition

5-Month-Old's Cause Of Death Still Not Determined

POSTED: 1:32 p.m. EDT May 15, 2003

Police are investigating the death of a 5-month-old baby they believe may have suffered malnutrition.

Miami-Dade Police Department's homicide investigators were summoned to Homestead Hospital where the infant was pronounced dead.

Police said that a preliminary investigation showed that Woyah Andresshan weighed approximately 6 pounds. The weight is considered by doctors to be very low and malnutrition has been identified as a possible factor in the infant's death.

Police were questioning Woyah's parents Wednesday.

Department of Children and Families has custody of the couple's other four children pending the outcome of the investigation.

The ages of the children range from 1 to 6 years old. Police said the children all appear to be of normal height and weight for their ages.
