WESTON, Fla. -- A fire that started after a woman left her oven on self-cleaning mode damaged a Weston house on Monday.
According to the Broward Sheriff's Office, the woman turned the oven on to clean it at about 11 a.m. in her home in the 3400 block of Saddle Brook Lane. Later that day, she left the house to pick up her child from school.
At about 3:30 p.m., BSO officials said, the woman returned home to find her house full of smoke. She called 911.
Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue arrived and extinguished the fire, which was in the wall behind the large, commercial-style dual oven. BSO said the firefighters found the family cat safe behind a wall in another room.
According to BSO, the fire caused about $50,000 in smoke and fire damage.
