Police Connect Another Assault To Serial Rapist

Rapist Now Wanted In 7 Attacks

UPDATED: 7:11 a.m. EDT June 18, 2003

A serial rapist in Miami is now connected to a seventh assault.

At a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Miami police said that they have now connected 7 rapes to the same man; 6 of them through DNA comparison, one of them by its similarity to the other attacks.

Police said the seventh case was an assault on a 77-year-old woman on March 13. Police said they had not submitted the DNA in that case for testing until "a couple weeks ago," and when they did, the match was discovered.

Investigators have not yet released the specific location of the seventh attack or explained the delay in DNA testing. They did say the assault happened in the city of Miami. The woman lives in the Shenandoah area.

Attacks Connected By Police To The Serial Rapist:

  • June 9, 2003: 12-year-old girl (DNA match)
  • June 2, 2003: 11-year-old girl (DNA match)
  • May 22, 2003: 79-year-old woman (Evidential)
  • May 15, 2003: 13-year-old girl (DNA match)
  • March 13, 2003: 77-year-old woman (DNA match)
  • Dec. 3, 2002: 55-year-old woman (DNA match)
  • Sept. 17, 2002: 21-year-old woman (DNA match)

Police say two of three composite sketches from the recent rapes show similarities. One sketch, a man shown in a baseball cap, is being dropped, and only the two with the strongest similarities are being used. If you'd like to compare the sketches, click here.

Police urge you to call Crimestoppers at (305) 471-TIPS with any information you may have about these recent rapes, or if the sketches or any of the pictured items look familiar. You can remain anonymous. There is a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to an arrest.

"I have never in my career seen a situation where the age ranges from 79 down to 11. I'm convinced that the answer lies with somebody giving us a call and saying I saw that shirt. I saw this guy in a cafeteria or bodega. I know him he lives down the block," said Miami Police Chief John Timoney.
