Police in Hallandale Beach are looking for the person who attacked and robbed a man in the V.I.P. parking lot of Gulfstream Race Track and Casino Monday and then got away by hopping on a transit bus.

On Wednesday, police released surveillance video of the violent assault.

The video shows a man wearing dark clothes and a hat.

He follows the victim, 59-year old John Kletcha, through a parking lot at Gulfstream Park, and then attacks him by his car.

Klecha is an executive at MI-VI, a club and restaurant at the Gulfstream complex.

“I take the deposits, the checks and the cash to the bank typically around that time," Kletcha said.

Once he robber approaches the car, he appears to have a brief conversation with Kletcha.

"He said 'I had a flat tire,'" Kletcha said. "When I got out of the car, I had my head down and that's when he hit me with the rock."

The man then grabbed the bag of cash and quickly walked away

Kletcha said he never lost consciousness, but it took eight staples to close the wound in his head.

Moments after the attack in the parking lot, surveillance video from a Broward County Transit bus captured a man boarding the bus and fumbling to pay his fare. The man was carrying a dark bag.

Detectives are certain it's the same man who attacked Kletcha. The bus headed south on U.S. 1

Police won’t say how much money was stolen or if Kletcha was targeted, but they said the popular gambling and entertainment complex is safe.

“We have over the years had burglaries to vehicles where cars were broken into. This is one of the first robberies we have had on scene and we definitely have a police presence out there," said Hallandale Beach Police spokeswoman Sonia Quiñones.

“I am just surprised that something like that could happen in broad daylight because everybody is aware of everybody that’s around them," said Gulfstream patron George Butkus.

Klecha said that in the future, he and the club are not taking anymore chances.

“You can never be too careful. We are always going to have multiple people going with me," he said.
