The father of a 10-year-old boy who was fatally shot in Aventura Thursday afternoon was found dead Friday morning, police said.
Detectives said the body of 72-year-old Erasmo Reina Moreno was found in the parking lot of a Tony Roma's in Sunny Isles. According to police, Moreno died of a self-inflicted gunshot.
Investigators said they found Moreno inside the brown Jeep Cherokee for which they had been searching.
Moreno had been wanted for questioning in the shooting death of his son.
The boy's mother, 31-year-old Kathleen Raigoso, returned home Thursday afternoon to 3172 N.E. 211th St. in Aventura to find her son had been fatally shot.
The shooting happened at the Aventura Lakes community.
The child, whose name has not been released, was killed sometime between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m., police said.
According to investigators, Moreno has a history of violence with his family.
Investigators told Local 10's Neki Mohan that Moreno and Raigoso were not married, but had been together for over 10 years but had recently separated.
But since Moreno owned the home in which the couple and their children live, he still had access to the property.
The couple also had another child together, an infant.
In August 2009, he was charged with domestic violence against a minor child.
The charges were dismissed in December.
