Family members of a woman critically injured in a hit-and-run on Las Olas Boulevard last week spoke to reporters Wednesday in the hope of generating tips about the crime.

Carolyn Bianco, 65, is lying in a hospital bed, unresponsive and in critical condition, after she was hit by a car on March 10 on Las Olas Boulevard near 11th Avenue.

Police said the driver of the large, GMC-type SUV that hit Bianco and her friend, Victoria Kirby, never stopped. Kirby has since been released from the hospital.

Bianco's family spoke to reporters Wednesday.

"She is very loving, caring and generous. She would do for other people more than she would do for herself," said Bianco's sister, Susan Demarseilles.

"We just can't believe this is all happening. We feel like we are living in a nightmare and, you know, we are going to wake up any day now and it will all be over with, but we know that is not going to happen," said Jim Demarseilles, Bianco's brother-in-law.

Police said the impact of the crash was so strong that it knocked pieces of the large SUV's front end into the roadway.

"(Bianco) required emergency (surgery) by a neurosurgeon and currently her status is critical. The issue is mainly her severe brain injury," said Dr. Michael Parra, a trauma doctor at Broward General Medical Center.

Bianco's family members said they wonder, with all the restaurants and outdoor dining terraces near the scene of the crash, if someone saw something but has not yet come forward.

"We just don't understand how someone can hit two pedestrians in the street and just keep going. I mean, what kind of person does this?" Jim Demarseilles said.

Police said that despite having several witnesses, no arrests have been made. Investigators, along with the family, are asking for the public's help.

“We would like to keep this in the news for as long as it takes so people don’t forget," Susan Demarseilles said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS (8477).
