DORAL, Fla. -- Miami-Dade police said a man stabbed his landlady during an argument Wednesday, fled the scene, and then drove to a police station to turn himself in.
Just after 8:30 a.m., 47-year-old Nilo Morales-Perez drove his car to a Miami-Dade Police Department station, covered in blood, walked in and told the desk officer he had just stabbed his landlord, Miami-Dade police said.
“At that time, personnel were dispatched to that location. Upon arrival it was confirmed that there was a white female stabbed at the location. Fire rescue responded and transported this female over to Jackson Memorial Hospital," said Treanese Louissaint, of the Miami-Dade police.
Police said Morales-Perez stabbed Hilda Alvarez, 43, in the stomach after the two got into some sort of dispute at 36 NW 73rd Court, the home where Alvarez rents out an apartment to Reyes. It is still not clear what the argument was about, but Alvarez was home alone.
Police said they believe that when Morales-Perez walked into the Midwest District Station Wednesday morning and told them he stabbed someone, he might have unknowingly saved his victim's life.
“If it wasn’t for him walking into the station and advising of what events that had just taken place, we probably would never had known that this lady was lying on the floor with a stab wound," Louissaint said.
Alvarez was listed in stable condition Wednesday afternoon. Officials said she is expected to recover.
