LAUDERHILL, Fla. -- Several vendors were arrested Friday morning at the Swap Shop in Fort Lauderdale.
Police said they have been conducting an undercover operation at the Swap Shop, a flea market in the 3200 block of West Sunrise Boulevard.
Undercover agents tracked items that were stolen from several large stores, including Publix, Walgreens, CVS and Target, according to investigators. Police said the items were then resold at the Swap Shop.
A representative from Publix explained why the resellers were able to offer such low prices.
"When these items are resold, they're either not selling them with tax, so they're not collecting the tax, or the tax is a lot lower than it should be, so local governments and the state are losing on those dollars. It's really a loss for everybody around," said Kim Jaeger, of Publix Supermarkets.
Eleven vendors have been arrested in connection with the investigation. Police said most of them were selling stolen electronics.
