'Pumping Party' Lawyer Seeks New Trial
Judge Will To Make Decision Within 3 Weeks
POSTED: Thursday, August 7, 2003
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. -- The attorney of a man convicted in the death of a woman following silicone injections was in court Thursday to try to win a new trial.

Mark Hawkins was convicted of third-degree murder in May. A jury convicted Hawkins of killing Vera Lawrence by injecting her with industrial strength silicone.
Mark Hawkins' lawyer argued that juror and registered nurse, Marla Liles, gave independent medical opinions to other jurors that were not based on anything in the trial, and he complained that the prosecution called Hawkins a "drug dealer" in his closing.
The judge said he will announce his decision within three weeks. If a new trial is denied, Hawkins will be sentenced immediately.
