MIAMI -- A man who ran an 84-year-old grandmother off Interstate 595 and into a swamp where she survived for three days is in trouble with the law again.
Scott Campbell (pictured, left), 23, who avoided jail with a plea agreement after he ran Tillie Tooter off the highway in Aug. 2000, was arrested for drunken driving on Dec. 28. He was taken to jail and bonded out the next day. But Tuesday night he was arrested again and taken to jail for violating the terms of his probation from the Tooter case.
Miami-Dade police said that officers saw Campbell driving northbound on South Dixie Highway near Southwest 220th Street. They said they watched him swerve twice from the highway onto the right shoulder, and they pulled him over near Southwest 215th Street.
The officers said they asked Campbell for his license, registration and insurance information, and they said they noticed he had bloodshot, watery eyes and smelled strongly of alcohol.
The officers said that Campbell acted very confused by instructions to retrieve his information and when asked to step out of his vehicle, Campbell stumbled and then swayed as he stood.
Based on roadside evaluation, the officers arrested Campbell for DUI.
