POSTED: Wednesday, January 14, 2004
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- The man who drove Tillie Tooter off the road and left her to spend three days in a swamp will be spending at least another week in jail.
A Broward County judge ruled Wednesday that Scott Campbell will stay behind bars until at least Jan. 23, when he is scheduled for a status conference.
Campbell, 23, who avoided jail with a plea agreement after he ran Tillie Tooter off the highway in Aug. 2000, was arrested for drunken driving on Dec. 28. He was taken to jail for violating the terms of his probation from the Tooter case.
Campbell and his defense team told Judge Paul Backman Wednesday that Campbell was not drunk when arrested.
Campbell's attorneys say vision problems and not alcohol were behind the Campbell's erratic driving.
After listening to the prosecution and defense, Backman ruled that Campbell will remain in jail for now.
