MIAMI BEACH, Fla. -- Local 10 is tracking the search for a missing teenager. We've learned police have searched a Miami Beach hotel and are also looking for an especially vicious pimp.
Local 10's Rad Berky has found that investigators believe the pimp brought the 15-year-old girl to South Florida and used her as a prostitute.
Police searched the Castle Beach Club and Resort Wednesday night on Miami Beach looking for Cassaundra Hannigan, 15, a runaway from Patterson, New York. They were also looking for a reputed pimp who goes by the name of Melo, who investigators believe put up the money to bond the teenager out of the Dade County Jail one month ago Thursday.
The girl told police she was 18 and a prostitute, but Hannigan's mother told the jail her daughter was a juvenile and that a warrant was out for her. But it was too late, she had already been bonded out, apparently by a man named Melo.
Building engineer Nick Cepeda said he had seen a girl who looked like Hannigan around the pool at the Castle Beach Club. He said police had also looked for her, but he didn't think that they had found her.
Investigators are worried. They want to find Melo, who they say is driving a black Lincoln Navigator with New York plates -- a car that was well known around the Castle.
Valet Carlos Consoni told Berky that a very tall black man drove the Navigator in and out all the time, arriving mostly in the early morning then leaving late at night.
Investigators rounded up a number of known prostitutes who work the beach area hoping for some leads to Melo or Hannigan. They found one woman whose breasts had been branded with two words. The first word was Melo the second was an obscenity.
In speaking to people who work and live around the Castle, Berky heard over and over again that prostitutes and pimps work there.
"You know I'm an owner here. I don't rent. So for me, it's a very big problem," said Castle tenant Rosey O'Sullivan.
It's a problem that Problem Solvers investigators hope they can solve. But first they want to find Melo and through him Hannigan, a girl who may have been branded or worse.
Hannigan has a court date set for next week on the original charge of loitering that landed her in jail in the first place, but investigators doubt she will show up. So, the search continues.
