Deputies Following 'Credible' Leads In Nanny's Murder

Detectives Release Photos Of Scene

POSTED: Monday, February 23, 2004

Detectives searching for the person who murdered Boca Raton nanny Monica Valdizan say they have many new tips and some "credible" leads.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office released surveillance video showing her shopping in a grocery store minutes before she disappeared and photographs taken where Valdizan's body was found Jan. 5, three days after her murder.

The photos show a shoe places hear Valdizan's body, along with her purse jacket and some food. Detectives said that they are closer to knowing exactly when her body was placed by the road. There were sprinklers in use in that location, but Valdizan's body and her clothing were dry, giving detectives a time frame of sometime after 2:45 a.m.

Detectives also said they feel sure that Valdizan was kept alive for at least some of the time that she was missing.

Detectives said that the killer was "very methodical." When he returned Valdizan's body and the other items, he left behind no physical evidence.

At this point, deputies say they have 20 new tips and four credible leads.

Deputies are hoping that someone who saw Valdizan shopping or remembers anything from the night of Jan. 2. will call Broward County CrimeStoppers at (954) 493-TIPS.
