MIAMI -- Thursday, the autopsy report on a 14-year-old student who was killed in his middle school bathroom was released.
Michael Hernandez, 14, is accused of killing Jaime Gough in the restroom.
The autopsy report revealed that Gough was stabbed more than 40 times in the face and neck. Two of the wounds in Gough's throat were reportedly so deep that his trachea was exposed and his jugular vein was severed.
Most disturbingly, the report also indicated wounds on Gough's hands that show he tried to fend off his attacker.
''This report is just devastating,'' Lee Marks, attorney for the Gough family, said. "Jaime tried to defend himself. That makes it even more difficult.''
Gough was murdered Feb. 3 at Southwood Middle School.
Hernandez, who was Gough's classmate and friend, confessed to plotting and carrying out the brutal murder.
John Spencer, a forensic psychologist and member of Hernandez's defense team, conceded that the medical examiner's report documents a brutal attack.
"I think the very nature of the injuries inflicted speaks to the severe disturbance of the person who inflicted them," Spencer said.
Thursday, the
transcript of an interview with a boy who may have narrowly avoided death was also released.
