Police: Family Moved Dead Baby From House To House

Investigators Say Family Tried To Conceal Infant's Death

Miami police are questioning a woman and her husband about the death of their baby.

Police believe that Matilde Bulnes (pictured, left), along with several family members, tried to cover up the death of 1-month-old Alanin Guerrero.

The baby's sisters Suami and Baleri, who are 21 and 19 years old, had custody of her. The baby reportedly was born with fetal alcohol syndrome. Alanin was put into the custody of her 21-year-old sister because of the parents' substance abuse problems, according to police. It is believed that the baby died while in the parents' custody, and the sisters tried to help conceal it.

Suami and Balery are under arrest, charged with failure to report the death and conspiracy to cover it up. They were both released on $1,000 bond each Wednesday afternoon.

Police are questioning Matilde DeJesus Bulnes, the baby's the father, Manuel Guerrero, and a neighbor, Irene Nunez. Police say it is likely that all three will also face charges.

Police say they were called around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday. The caller said that the one-month-old had stopped breathing. Rescuers found the baby in a carrier.

Family members originally told investigators that the infant was fed around 7:00 a.m., and found unresponsive moments before police were called.

Homicide investigators said they found the description of the baby's death difficult to believe because it was inconsistent with the findings of their inspection of both the infant's body and physical evidence on the scene.

Investigators later learned from family members that the Alanin actually died at 1510 N.W. 3rd Street, before being taken by taxicab to 1873 S.W. 3rd Street.

Once at the second location, the infant was dressed and placed in the crib to look as if she had been sleeping there before dying.
