MIAMI -- Miami-Dade police arrested two people after officers found at least 50 puppies and several birds officers said were suffering from neglect.
Officers said the animals, found at a property in the 19000 block of Southwest 200 Street in Redland, were malnourished and were being kept without water. The property is a business called Puppy World Kennels that reportedly had puppies that were trucked in from breeders in other parts of the country.
Investigators referred to the property as a "puppy mill." Officers said that one of the buildings in which dozens of puppies were stored had no ventilation and was at least 100 degrees.
The owner of the Redland property, Ronald Lee Jacoby, reportedly has another similar business at which he has another 60 puppies. Police plan to investigate that facility as well.
Jacoby, along with the facility caretaker, Mariana Rics, were charged with aggravated animal cruelty.
The puppies were taken to the Humane Society in Boca Raton where volunteers are nursing them back to health so they can be adopted.
If you'd like to adopt one of the puppies, you can call the Tri-County Humane Society at (561) 482-8110.
