FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Police arrested a county-employed environmental engineer Thursday, accusing him of turning his Fort Lauderdale home into a sophisticated, volatile drug lab.
Federal agents raided William Hahne's home at 720 N.E. 17th Court around 7 p.m. Thursday. The home is within 500 feet of a Fort Lauderdale high school, according to authorities, which could increase possible penalties.
Investigators said Hahne was making a drug called euphoria -- a combination of
Ecstasy and amphetamines. A kilogram of euphoria was reportedly found in the house.
Making euphoria involves using various volatile chemicals. Any mistakes, and investigators said Hahne could have set off an explosion.
Hahne reportedly has an engineering degree from Georgia Tech. Police said he worked for Philips Petroleum for a short while after college, before Broward County hired him.
